What crypto changes — and what it does not
A cryptocurrency transfer can avoid sharing card details with the recipient, but it does not automatically remove the account holder’s legal or contractual identity-check obligations. Operators can still ask for ID before approving a transaction or when a risk rule is triggered. Blockchain transactions may also be publicly traceable.
Crypto transactions are not automatically anonymous
Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT transfers use cryptocurrency wallets rather than conventional card details. A transfer can be initiated through a wallet address or QR code. However, blockchain activity can often be followed publicly, exchanges may hold identifying customer records and the casino can request identity verification under its own rules.
E-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and MiFinity, along with prepaid vouchers, are also used as payment products. Those are different payment products with separate document and withdrawal conditions; they are covered in the dedicated payments guide rather than conflated with cryptocurrency.
Five checks for crypto-related claims
Does the operator ask to verify that the payout address belongs to the user?
Are additional documents required after certain deposits or withdrawals?
Are fees, network selections and minimum transfers clearly specified?
Can KYC and anti-money-laundering checks be performed irrespective of payment method?
Does the service block restricted countries regardless of crypto payment availability?
Crypto vs bank transfer checks
| Consideration | Crypto transfer | Bank / card transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Account KYC | Can still be required | Can still be required |
| Transfer details | Wallet address / chain | Bank or card information |
| Outside processing | Blockchain confirmations | Financial institution settlement |
| Privacy | Not automatically anonymous | Identified financial institution |
Why this matters in Australia
The Australian prohibition on supplying online casino services to customers located in the country is not removed by paying in crypto. Offshore licences and alternative payment rails should never be interpreted as a legal workaround. Read the Australian regulatory explainer.
